Tory Nyhaug won a silver medal at the BMX supercross world championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The 22-year-old Coquitlam, B.C. native who wears FIVE TRX gloves, has improved greatly this year after placing fifth in last year’s world championships. The 2012 Olympian has also faced a lot of adversity in recent years. Prior to the Olympics in 2012, he ruptured his spleen a mere 11 weeks before the Games. On Sunday, Nyhaug achieved the best result of his career having finished twice on the podium in World Cups in the past two seasons.
Team Canada’s coach, Ken Cools, was happy with Nyhaug’s and the rest of the team’s performance, highlighting that despite Nyhaug not being the best in practice, he always steps up on race day.
Australian veteran (32 years) and FIVE rider part of the QMMF team, Anthony West has returned to winning this summer in Assen, 11 years after his last success on the same track in 2003 and has managed to avoid the pitfalls of a track made difficult by the weather (wet early in the race and then dried towards the end). Anthony proved he could fight with riders aged 20, 22 and was performing in both the wet and the dry.
Florian Marino wears FIVE RFX Race gloves and currently holds the leading position in the Supersport World Championship, after a start to the season which saw him climb to the podium on several occasions, at the Netherlands GP in Assen (2nd) or at Imola, Italy last Sunday (3rd). At only 21, the young Frenchman shows he is a strong contender for the world title in 2014. Ranking only 13th in the World Supersport Championship last year, Florian seems to have gained confidence and may well achieve his goal of title if he continues to show as efficient and regular.
